Description:
A set of musical ideas are manipulated and either played back via csound or displayed on a monitor for a musician to interpret.
Hardware:
M-Audio Delta 410
Computer (Mad Dan) running SuSe Linux
Monitor for Musician’s Score
Mackie Powered Monitors for playback
Software:
Custom score manipulation program
LilyPond
CsoundAV
Notes:
A repurposing of the “Ghosts” variation engine, but working on scores instead of audio. I feel that this idea had tremendous potential but this execution was flawed. The software doesn’t listen to the musician, resulting in non-musical clashes with the performer. A friend who played with this system called it a “karaoke torture device”, which is an apt description of trying to keep up with the endless black dots the program was fond of outputting.
